Urgent Safety Alert: KTEBO Writing Tablet Toys Recalled Over Battery Ingestion Risk

BatterySwallow

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of around 10,380 KTEBO Writing Tablet Toys. These writing tablets are sold online through Amazon. Amazon has recently pulled the product due to its deadly risk to children.

The recall occurred on December 4, 2025. The CPSC says that the screw securing the battery compartment can become detached, posing a serious safety risk to children and a potential choking hazard. If these batteries are swallowed, it can cause serious internal injuries such as chemical burns and even death.

What makes these toys so dangerous?

Button cell batteries are a common feature found in toys and devices. They are very smooth, very shiny, and very easy for young children to swallow. If the battery is ingested, it can generate an electrical current that reacts to a child’s internal body processes. This can cause a toxic reaction that severely damages stomach tissue.

As for the KTEBO tablets, there’s a problem with the battery compartment screw that gives the child easy access to the battery. Such products, especially those marketed to children, should not have small components that can be ingested. It’s a violation of mandatory product safety requirements and will trigger an immediate recall once discovered.

Other recent battery-related toy recalls

This recall marks a troubling trend of children’s toys being recalled for potential battery ingestion risks. Over recent weeks, the CPSC has also recalled:

  • Meaicezli Play Purse Sets
  • Cubimana building toy sets
  • Bettina Doll Sets

The recall mentioned similar problems that the KTEBO tablet has. In most cases, these products violate mandatory standards set forth for products that are marketed to children.

It’s also true that other types of products have battery button issues. It’s not just toys. Safety advocates say that accessible button or coin batteries are linked to thousands of emergency room visits each year, causing serious injuries to children.

Product liability considerations

When a toy poses a known danger, legal claims are likely incoming. Parents can sue on behalf of their children if their children are injured by a defective product. KTEBO knew that there were specific standards employed by U.S. regulators regarding safety. In this case, KTEBO likely didn’t know that the screw could come off so easily. However, that’s not a defense to injury. That’s an admission of guilt.

Under product liability law, injured parties or their guardians can pursue damages related to medical expenses, pain and suffering, future care costs, and more when a child is injured by a defective product. Such claims extend to the retailer that made the product available in the stream of commerce.
