Oster French Door Countertop Ovens Recalled Over Burn Hazard: What Consumers And Florida Families Should Know

InjuredFingerBurnBlister

The CPSC has announced a recall affecting more than 1.29 million Oater French Door Countertop Ovens after reports that the door can unexpectedly close while in use. This can pose a serious burn hazard to customers. The recall was announced in September 2025 in league with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. It covers several models that were sold across the U.S.

Details surrounding the recall

The recall affects Oster French Door Countertop Oven models:

  • TSSTTVFDXL
  • TSSTTVFDDG
  • TSSTTVFDMAF
  • TSSTTVFDDAF

All of these models feature a spring-loaded bilateral door made of glass with metal handles. The doors are designed to spring outward. However, they can unexpectedly close on your arm or hand, which can lead to burn injuries.

The ovens were sold all across the U.S. by major retailers such as:

  • Walmart
  • Costco
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • Amazon
  • Overstock.com

The ovens cost between $140 and $250. According to the CPSC, there have been 95 reports of the door closing unexpectedly. There are currently two reports of injuries. Customers suffered second-degree burns. Officials are now urging consumers to stop using the defective ovens immediately and contact Sunbeam for a repair kit.

The recall remedy

Sunbeam is offering customers a free repair kit that is designed to reduce the risk of the doors snapping shut. According to Sunbeam, the kit contains a clip-on device that adds a holding force to help keep the doors open as users reach inside. The repair kit does not contain any tools and comes with instructions and a video link to guide consumers in repairing the doors.

While this remedy appears to solve the problem, some legal observers question whether it goes far enough to address the underlying design flaw. Oster is not offering refunds or replacements. They’re only offering the kit.

Similar recalls and safety patterns

Household items causing serious burns are not isolated incidents. Countertop appliances, and especially those with doors, are heavily scrutinized for potential defects. Recent recalls have included pressure cookers, blenders, and other kitchen gadgets that pose a burn hazard.

Legal and consumer liability issues

In terms of product liability, this recall raises several issues for the manufacturers and retailers who had control over the product before it was sold. Legal issues that impact consumers include:

  • Design defect – This claim asserts that the product was designed defectively or with a known danger that resulted in user injury. Plaintiffs can show that an alternative design was safer and could have prevented any injuries.
  • Failure to warn – In this case, the customers had no warning that the door would automatically snap shut on them while they were reaching inside the oven. Because the company failed to warn consumers, they can be held liable for injuries.
  • Inadequate remedy – In this case, it’s not clear if the remedy goes far enough to fix the problem. Customers are being given a toolkit to repair the problem themselves. In a lot of cases, the recall stays open because the remedy doesn’t fully fix the problem.

Under Florida law, injured consumers can seek compensation from companies that produced a dangerous or defective product. Damages include medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and reduced quality of life.
