Sakar Recalls Vivitar Blender Bottles Due To Laceration Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of Vivitar Blender Bottles. According to the CPSC, the blender’s blades can continue to operate even after the bottle is removed from the blender, posing a major laceration hazard. Vivitar has announced that they will refund consumers who purchased their product. About 199,000 units have been recalled in the United States.
The CPSC is recommending consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blender bottles and contact Sakar for instructions on how to receive a full refund in the form of a $5 Target gift card or a check, and a pre-paid return shipping label. The recalled blender must be returned to Sakar to receive a full refund. Consumers do not need to prove they purchased the product with a receipt. Consumers are being asked not to return the recalled product to Target stores. Sakar has stated that they’re contacting all known purchasers directly.
Sakar has received one report where a consumer was able to remove the bottle from the base while the blades were still engaged. However, no injuries have been reported.
The blenders were sold exclusively at Target stores and online at Target.com from December 2024 through January 2025 for about $5.
The Shark Blender Ninja lawsuits
A recent defective blender lawsuit was aimed at Shark Ninja. The company was sued because consumers were injured by their blenders “exploding” during use. The explosion caused shrapnel from the canister to be ejected at the consumer’s face. In addition, the blender left the blades exposed which can cause it to injure the consumer’s hand.
In one case, a consumer lost two fingers when the canister of Shark Ninja Nutri Ninja BL-480 shot off the base while he was using it. The spinning blades were ejected into the consumer’s hand. He ended up losing two fingers as a result of the defective blender.
It is likely that the blender allowed an excessive amount of pressure to build within the canister which caused the blender’s canister to explode.
GE Food Processor sold by Walmart
In addition to the Shark Ninja, the GE Food Processor sold exclusively by Walmart was designed with a safety interlock device that would prevent the unit from turning on when the lid to the food processor was removed. However, the safety interlock device didn’t work and consumers were seriously hurt by the product. In many cases, consumers were injured when the lid was removed and the consumer was pushing down on the blade in the bowl of the unit. The blender would mistakenly power on and the blades would start spinning.
