Positec Recalls Electric Corded Chainsaws And Pole Saws Due To Potential Laceration Hazard

PoleSaw

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of Positec’s Electric Corded Chainsaws and Pole Saws. According to the CPSC, the main switch on the recalled chainsaws and pole saws can fail. This allows the saws to continue to run even after the switch is released. Such a defect poses a laceration hazard.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled chainsaws and contact Positec for a pre-paid shipping label and a new box to return the products free of charge. Positec will provide the consumer with a new free replacement chainsaw or pole saw upon receiving the recalled product.

The chainsaws and pole saws were sold at Walmart, Harbor Freight, and online at Worx.com and Amazon.com from September 2024 through March 2025 for between $50 and $120.

Defective chainsaw lawsuits and recalls

This is not the first time that a chainsaw manufacturer has been targeted for either a recall or by personal injury attorneys acting on behalf of injured clients. This recent recall initiated by the CPSC involves approximately 49,000 electric corded chainsaws sold under the brands Hypertough, Worx, and Portland. Halpern, Santos, & Pinkert is offering free case evaluations to anyone who was injured by the defective chainsaws.

Other examples include:

  • Kobalt Chainsaws – Chainsaws often suffer switch failures. In this case, Kobalt 40-volt Lithium-Ion 12-inch cordless electric chainsaws were recalled due to a serious safety defect in which the switch contacts could weld together, preventing the chainsaw from shutting off. The defect was linked to serious injuries, including major lacerations and amputations. The products were sold primarily at Lowe’s.
  • DR Power Equipment – Generac Power Systems Inc. could be facing several personal injury lawsuits related to a recall of around 7,180 DR Power Equipment Battery-Powered Chainsaws due to the overheating of the motor controllers, posing fire and burn hazards. If the models overheat and cause a fire within the home, they can cause major property damage and severe personal injury to residents.
  • Harbor Freight Chainsaws – Again, these chainsaws have a defect in the power switch that can cause them to keep running even after they’ve been powered off.
  • Stihl Chainsaws – Stihl is facing recalls and lawsuits related to defects in the chainsaw, which can cause the blades to spin unintentionally.
  • DeWALT Chainsaws – The CPSC issued a recall for DeWalt chainsaws due to an issue with the saw, causing it to remain running when switched off. It could also turn on after it was plugged in.
