Segway Recalls Segway Ninebot Max G30P And Max G30LP Amid Risk Of Fall Hazard

Scooter5

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced the recall of Segway Ninebot G30P and Max G30LP. According to the CPSC, the folding mechanism can fail, causing the handlebars or stem to fold while the scooter is still in use. This poses a fall hazard to consumers.

The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled scooters and contact Segway to receive information on whether the folding mechanism needs adjustment. If it does, the consumer will receive a free maintenance kit. The kit includes instructions and tools for checking and tightening the folding mechanism and keeping proper maintenance on the scooter.

At present, Segway has received 68 reports of the folding mechanism failing. This includes 20 reports, including abrasions, bruises, lacerations, and broken bones.

The scooters were sold at:

  • Best Buy
  • Costco
  • Walmart
  • Target

Lawsuits against Segway

While no personal injury lawsuits have yet to be filed against Segway over this particular defect, Segway is facing lawsuits related to its scooters. At least two class action lawsuits have been filed against the company amid claims that Segway sold “deceptively dangerous” scooters with a major defect that could cause the folding mechanism to fail, leading to serious injuries. The recall alleges that Segway’s recall effort was inadequate because it only provided a maintenance kit instead of refunding or replacing the scooter.

As of now, personal injury attorneys are reviewing individual cases for consumers who were injured by the defective scooters. These lawsuits focus on recovering compensation for damages related to injuries sustained while using the scooter. Plaintiffs can recover damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Allegations against Segway

The personal injury lawsuits claim that the defect in the folding mechanism can cause the scooter to unexpectedly collapse while in use, potentially throwing riders off the scooter and causing serious injuries. Reports indicate that customers have sustained injuries such as:

  • Abrasions
  • Bruises
  • Lacerations
  • Broken bones

Scooter personal injury lawsuits

Segway is not the only scooter manufacturer to face personal injury lawsuits. The majority of these lawsuits have been filed against Lime and Bird. In fact, the majority of lawsuits filed against scooter companies have targeted scooter share companies. The allegations in these lawsuits included claims of mechanical failures. Specifically, customers have claimed that the batteries have caught fire or the baseboards broke in half while in use.

The majority of lawsuits have been filed under the claim that the scooter share companies failed to maintain the scooters in roadworthy condition. In addition, litigants have claimed that inadequate safety instructions led to serious injury.
