Werner Multi-Max Pro Ladder Recall

Werner Multi-Max Pro Ladder Recall

What Consumers Need to Know

When you purchase a ladder, you trust that it will help you complete tasks safely, whether you are painting your home, making repairs, or working professionally. Unfortunately, even trusted brands can release defective products that pose serious hazards. On August 14, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a major recall of Werner’s 20’ and 24’ Multi-Max Pro multi-purpose ladders due to a dangerous fall risk. At Halpern Santos & Pinkert, our Florida ladder injury attorneys believe consumers should be fully informed of this recall, the potential injuries it may cause, and the legal rights available if you or a loved one has been harmed.

Details of the Werner Ladder Recall

The recall applies specifically to Werner’s 20-foot and 24-foot Multi-Max Pro multi-purpose ladders, model numbers ALMP-20IAA and ALMP-24IAA. These ladders were sold in silver with a blue top and a blue side rail label marked with the brand’s oval logo and the words “MULTI MAX PRO.” They also feature a long black rope on the back section.

The issue lies in the ladders’ locking mechanism, which can jam and fail to fully secure into place. When the locking system does not properly engage, the ladder may collapse unexpectedly, causing users to fall from significant heights.

According to the CPSC, approximately 122,250 units are affected by this recall. The ladders were sold nationwide at Home Depot stores and online at HomeDepot.com between November 2021 and February 2024, with retail prices ranging from $200 to $281.

Werner is offering full refunds to consumers who register their product at www.wernerco.com/recalls. After disposal of the defective ladder, eligible consumers will receive a refund in the form of a check.

Reported Incidents and Injuries

The danger posed by these defective ladders is not theoretical. Werner has already received 18 reports of falls, including 14 reports of injuries. The injuries range from bruises and lacerations to head injuries, wrist fractures, rib fractures, and broken legs.

Falls from ladders can be catastrophic, especially when users are elevated 10, 15, or even 20 feet in the air. Beyond the injuries already reported, there is a significant risk of traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, internal bleeding, and other life-threatening harm.

Because ladders are essential tools for both homeowners and professionals, many consumers may not immediately stop using them despite the recall, placing them at continued risk of serious accidents.

Potential Legal Issues Arising From the Recall

When a company sells a defective product, consumers who are injured may have the right to pursue a product liability lawsuit. In the case of the recalled Werner ladders, injured individuals may seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.

A claim could be based on several legal theories, including:

  • Design Defect: The ladder may have been improperly designed, making it unreasonably dangerous even when used as intended.
  • Manufacturing Defect: The locking mechanism could have failed due to flaws in the production process.
  • Failure to Warn: If the company knew of risks associated with the locking mechanism but failed to provide adequate warnings, consumers may hold them accountable.

It is worth noting that Werner is a large company with significant resources and a reputation in the ladder industry. While the company is offering refunds, a refund alone does not compensate victims who have suffered severe injuries. Lawsuits may be necessary to hold the manufacturer accountable and to ensure injured individuals receive full and fair compensation.

What Consumers Should Do Now

If you purchased one of the recalled Werner ladders, it is critical that you stop using it immediately. Visit the company’s recall registration site to arrange for disposal and request a refund.

If you have already been injured while using one of these ladders, it is equally important to:

  1. Seek Medical Attention: Document your injuries with medical records and follow your doctor’s recommendations.
  2. Preserve Evidence: Keep the defective ladder, receipts, and any photographs of the incident or injuries.
  3. Report the Incident: Notify the CPSC and Werner about the accident to create an official record.
  4. Consult an Attorney: Before negotiating directly with the manufacturer or insurer, speak with an experienced product liability lawyer who can protect your rights.
