Recalled High Chairs And Child Injuries: When Baby Gear Fails, Florida Parents Have Legal Options

InjuredArmTodler

When you’re a parent shopping for baby gear–whether it’s a high chair, crib, or stroller–you have to trust that the companies supplying these products tested them thoroughly before putting them into the market. Further, you assume that the safety boxes were all checked, and whoever made the product actually thought about the fact that a real baby would be using it.

Sometimes, however, that trust is misplaced.

Recently there was a high chair called the Harppa 5-in-1. It looked solid enough. It featured multi-use, modern design, and the usual selling points. But now, the high chair has been recalled because it turns out that kids were falling out of it. In other cases, they were getting stuck or sliding down in a dangerous fashion.

This can be extremely dangerous for a baby or a toddler. A fall like that can cause serious injury. These include head injuries, broken bones, and other injuries that can damage them for life.

Why these injuries are so serious

Kids aren’t just small adults; they’re still growing and forming. Their bones are softer and more fragile. And because their heads are proportionally bigger than the rest of their bodies, they’re much more likely to suffer serious injuries if they take a fall–especially from something as high up as a high chair.

It’s not just bumps and bruises, either. We’re talking about concussions and even traumatic brain injuries. They can also suffer skull fractures, broken teeth or facial injuries, internal injuries, and even emotional issues.

The thing that most people don’t realize is when a child gets hurt, it can affect way more than just that moment. Injuries like these can impede their development. This includes how they move, how they learn, and even how their brains grow. What might heal quickly in an adult can set a child back for years.

That’s precisely why these types of product safety failures (especially when it comes to baby gear) aren’t just accidents. They’re serious. The stakes are high and when something goes wrong, it’s not just about the product. It’s about the life that product was supposed to help protect.

How recalls fit into liability

A product recall does not erase the manufacturer’s responsibility. In many cases, it can even strengthen a negligence claim. Manufacturers typically only announce recalls after enough complaints or evidence accumulates to show a pattern of danger. By that point, there may be a number of injured victims.

What should parents do if their child is injured?

If an injury has occurred, it is important to take the right steps early:

  • Seek medical attention immediately, even for injuries that seem minor. They could be masking underlying trauma.
  • Keep the high chair and all packaging. Don’t throw anything away.
  • Take photos of the chair, any damage, and the area where the incident happened.
  • Write down what happened while the details are still fresh.
  • Speak with a product liability attorney before contacting the manufacturer.
