Flying Tire Accident Results In Fatality In Kentucky

Tire4

An 18-year-old woman died as a result of a flying tire accident in Kentucky. According to the report, the tire came spring into her vehicle as she was driving in the southbound lanes of the I-75. The tire came from the northbound lanes after it flew over the concrete barrier that was separating them and struck her Buick LaCrosse. The 18-year-old victim died after being taken to the hospital.

It is unclear from the article which vehicle lost the tire. Police may be able to match the tire to the vehicle, but in some cases, it remains unclear which vehicle is responsible for the accident.

Liability in flying tire accidents

Generally speaking, a driver is responsible for the roadworthiness of their car. If they recently had work done on the car, or the tire was recently replaced, it may be possible to hold the auto shop liable for failing to properly install the tire. Flying tire fatalities may sound like freak accidents, but there is usually some element of negligence that is responsible for the crash. In these cases, the driver may be liable.

Truck accidents and flying tire incidents

Often, commercial big rigs or 18-wheelers are involved in flying tire accidents. When an 18-wheeler loses its tire, you’re talking about more than 100 pounds of force striking another vehicle at high speed. The driver of the vehicle and the company they work for are generally responsible when this happens. They can be sued for money damages related to the accident.

Truck drivers and trucking companies are supposed to conduct routine inspections on their vehicles. This means ensuring that all tires are securely latched to the vehicle prior to and during a delivery. When they fail in this duty of care, they are responsible for any injuries that they cause.

Suing a major trucking company is not a simple matter and requires the expertise of a Florida personal injury lawyer with experience in flying tire accidents. The law firm of Halpern, Santos, & Pinkert has experience filing lawsuits against major trucking companies over tire defects and flying tire accidents.

Flying tire accidents are often fatal

Flying tire accidents that occur on highways are often fatal. Even in smaller vehicles, the tire can weigh a significant amount of pounds. In these cases, a tire striking another vehicle at high speed can absolutely destroy the other vehicle and kill anyone who is sitting in the front seat.
