West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County, Florida
West Palm Beach is the most populous city in Palm Beach County and serves as the county seat. It has an estimated population of approximately 100,000 people. West Palm Beach is the oldest incorporated municipality in all of South Florida, with incorporation occurring in 1894. It has been designated the “Capital City of the Palm Beaches.” Palm Beach County itself is considered the northernmost county of the South Florida area.
West Palm Beach was originally developed as a city for servants working at nearby hotels. Now however, the beautiful, coastal city has a vibrant skyline and boasts a wonderful entertainment area. Interestingly, the city was originally spelled as one word, “Westpalmbeach,” but this was changed as the 13 letter word was thought to be foreboding.
West Palm Beach is home to the Sunfest festival, a popular music and entertainment festival that began in 1982. The city is served by Palm Beach International Airport, which is the 58th busiest airport in the United States.
The 15th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida serves West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County. The main judicial complex is located at 205 North Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401.
