Coral Gables, Florida is an intimate city located in the Miami-Dade County area, with a population of just over 42,000 people. The city was developed by George Edgar Merrick in the 1920s and is one of the first planned communities in the State of Florida.
Renown for its beautiful landscape, attractive architecture and pedestrian-friendly design, Coral Gables is nick-named the “City Beautiful.” It is home to over 140 local business establishments, including a large selection of restaurants, gourmet shops and famous retailers. Miracle Mile runs from east to west through Coral Gables and is the location of many of these establishments, including Houston’s and Ortanique, two of the finest restaurants in all of Miami. The city also hosts a free circulator trolley system that runs down the center of the city on Ponce De León Boulevard to allow for easy access and commute throughout the area, while also helping to limit congestion.
The small city is home to the University of Miami, which has been the largest employer within Coral Gables since its development. The world famous Miami Biltmore Hotel, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996, is also ideally located within the Coral Gables area.
